We can’t wait to share all of our amazing learning with you!

Learning Panes

In Year 5 learning is very important to us all and we like to reflect on the amazing things we learn. At the end of each day we complete our ‘Learning Pane’ together. We discuss what has been the two most important pieces of learning to us that day. You can see an example below:

Maths Learning!

In maths we follow ‘Maths No Problem!’ We work on our maths each lesson in a structured way to help us learn. Our lessons look like this:

  • Exploration –instead of ‘Let me teach you…’ as a starting point, we encouraged to explore a problem ourselves to see what they already know.
  • Structured discussion – we then have a discussion to organise the findings of the exploration, compare/contrast strategies and guide toward the most efficient strategy (or the one being learnt that day).
  • Questions to challenge thinking – we question each other frequently throughout the lesson; this helps us to be independent learners and deepens our understanding. A variety of questions are used, such as: How do you know? Can you prove it? Are you sure? Is that right? What’s the same/different about? Can you explain that? What does your partner think? Can you imagine?
  • Discussion and feedback– we have opportunities to talk to our partners and explain/clarify our thinking throughout the lesson.

Year 5 are amazing in their learning at school and I know they are so keen to continue this at home! We have our very own Year 5 MyMaths log in so that all of Year 5 can access maths activities and games.

Our School Trip – Walker Art Gallery Liverpool – October 2022

Year 5 visited the Walker Art Gallery based on our history topic of Ancient Greece. We took part in a workshop writing a Greek myth based on one of the amazing pictures in the gallery. We then had a tour of the building we looked at the amazing galleries and saw all the fanatstic pieces of art. We had a great day and learnt lots too!
