PE and Sports Premium

Purpose of study

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Aims

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  •  develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  •  are physically active for sustained periods of time
  •  engage in competitive sports and activities
  •  lead healthy, active lives

Attainment Targets

By the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study.

Sports Grant

The Government allocated additional funding per annum to provide schools with the resources to enable them to improve the quality and breadth of their PE and sport provision. The funding must be used to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils in Years 1 to 6, so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles.

Vision

ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Objective

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools against…

5 key indicators:

  1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
  2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
