This Half Term
Welcome back to Year 4, I hope you have had a lovely summer break and are ready for a great term ahead. I am very excited to see all the fantastic work that Year 4 will produce. Here is a quick look at some of the exciting things we will be learning this term.
In English we will looking at fantasy stories. We will be reading The Firework Maker's Daughter and finding out all about Lila and her exciting adventure. We will be analysing the language used and will use the stories plot to plan our very own story! We will also be moving on to look at non-fiction texts. We will be exploring different explanation texts. We will focus on the conjunctions used and the structure of the texts. We will then work to plan and write our very own explanation text.
In maths we will continue to work on our times table probes (I know everyone in Year 4 will work very hard to improve their times!) This half term we will be focusing on our place value work. We will then move on to look at our addition and subtraction methods as well as looking at 2D shapes. We will be getting involved in lots of hands on, practical mathematical investigations to help our learning.
In science this term we will be learning all about Electricity. We will becoming Junior Electricians and will be set a variety of challenges that we will have to solve using all of our knowledge about electrical circuits.
It looks like a busy first half term for us and I am looking forward to seeing all the fantastic work that Year 4 will produce!
