Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Mr Bond

In Year 4, we strive to be the best versions of ourselves and will always try to do our best. We love to learn and work together whilst in school and are prepared to rise to any challenge put before us.

Every day is fun filled with opportunities to explore and discover new learning. In Year 4 we focus on our English, Maths and Time Tables in a morning and then broaden our learning through topic work and various other subjects which include:

  • RE
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • PE
  • Computing
  • Art
  • French
  • PSHE
  • Swimming

Maths and Multiplications!

Our maths lessons follow ‘Maths No Problem’. These lessons include lots of problem solving, mathematical working and thinking and opportunities for deeper learning. Each lesson follows the same structure;

  • Exploration –instead of ‘Let me teach you…’ as a starting point, we encourage everyone to use what they know to solve the problem and then share their solutions with others.
  • Structured discussion –we then have a discussion to organise our findings from the exploration, compare/contrast strategies and guide toward the most efficient strategy (or the one being learnt that day).
  • Questions to challenge thinking – we question each other frequently throughout the lesson; this helps us to be independent learners and deepens our understanding. A variety of questions are used, such as: How do you know? Can you prove it? Are you sure? Is that right? What’s the same/different about? Can you explain that? What does your partner think? Can you imagine?
  • Discussion and feedback– we have opportunities to talk to our partners and explain/clarify our thinking throughout the lesson.

Also in Year 4, we are working hard to learn our ‘Times Tables’. Time is given every day to practise our times tables and we do this through songs, rhymes, challenges and structured tasks. We have a Times Tables Rockstars display and our quick tables sheets in our trays to help us whilst in class. It is important we keep our skills sharp, so makes sure you click on any the links below to help.

We are Year 4!

Everyone is different and we are proud to share our achievements and what makes us stand out. Every week we look for ways to celebrate and overcome things we find difficult. This could be in our learning, our social lives or at home and it is important we feel comfortable to share these with our friends and teachers at school. So if it is important to one of us, it is important to us all.

If you have anything you want to talk about or share, do not hesitate to speak to Mr Bond or any member of staff around school.

We cannot wait for you to get to know us!
