Trip to St Patrick's Chapel and Half Moon Bay
We had a glorious sunny trip to Heysham Village. We saw 5 swallow babies in the church entrance being fed by their parents! We had a lovely walk and a picnic on the beach. We felt like we were in the South of France as it was so beautiful and warm.
We looked for interesting pebbles and shells on the beach and finished off the day at Half Moon Bay café with an ice-cream.
Science Day ~Water
We made ice boats and predicted whether they would sink or float.
This is because the ice boat is less dense than the water.
We looked at ice cubes carefully and then looked at what happened when we put our finger on the cube. After a few minutes, there was a little dip as the heat from our finger had melted the ice.
Making ice – cream!
This was good fun and very easy. We put milk, sugar and vanilla or lemon essence in a bag. Then put the smaller bag into a large bag containing ice and salt. We kept squeezing and moving the bag and after about 10 mins the milk had turned to a soft and delicious ice- cream!
Stone Age Day
We had a fantastic day in Windermere, even though it poured down all day! We made axes, slingshots and painted using natural stones and charcoal. We became hunter gatherers, looking for clues about animals. We also learnt how to make a fire and lit one ourselves which was very exciting.
In DT week we made marble runs. We made our own tubes from rolled up paper . We had to test them to see if the marble would go down. We also made ramps from lollipop sticks and card. Some children used magnets to move a magnetic marble.
We also used Lego to make a marble maze.
We have planted some tulip and crocus bulbs. We hope in the Springtime, they will look very colourful outside our classroom.
