Welcome to Year One
Miss Murphy and Miss Mason
Everyone in Year One has settled in really well. We are all busy learning and discovering. The children have been finding nature each day and watching sunflowers, beans and strawberries grow. We have been learning how to care for them.
the book of Autumn term is........
If you share this book with your child please come in and celebrate with us, your child will then receive a certificate in assembly and be entered into our termly raffle to win a prize.
We are learning to write sentences using capital letters, full stops and making sure we leave finger spaces.
Each week we practice our handwriting so we can write neatly in our books.
It is important that your child reads at home every day.
Children read in class regularly and practice their sound work. This will help them to sound out and learn to read new words. Please help them learn their new sounds and words at home too.
In Year One maths is very practical and the children are using cubes, counters and many different objects to count forwards and backwards in different steps. They have been measuring different items and comparing who is the tallest and shortest.
We are now looking at word problems and how to solve them. Next, we will be counting in 2s and learning about odd and even numbers as well as number bonds to 10, 20 and 100.
We have also be learning the names and numbers of sides on 2D shapes.
P.E. - Our days are Thursdays and Fridays.
Homework - Spelling homework will be marked and a new sheet given out on a Monday. Please ensure your child fills in one column each evening and they do their sentences on a Friday. Please make sure these books stay in their book bag.
Maths books will be collected in and marked on a Friday and given out the same day.
During D.T. week we have been making animals from clay and then designing and making a box to fit them in.
