Reception

Welcome to Reception

Miss Hunter and Mrs Crabtree

We would like to welcome all of our new children and families to Reception. The children all look very smart in their uniforms and have settled in really quickly. We are very excited to be at the start of their learning journey at St Patrick's school and we can not wait to start learning!

This half term we are getting to know one another, making new friends and becoming familiar with the routine of our classroom. The children have all been super stars caring for our classroom and at tidy up time they  always beat the timer smiley

This week

We are sharing the story The Little Red Hen and learning all about how bread is made. We are developing our role play area into a Bakery and becoming more familiar with money when going into the bakery to buy our bread and cakes.

In maths we will also be exploring weight and completing cheeky challenges such as can you make the scales balanced? Who can find out if the big green car is heavier than the little fire engine? We will also be weighing out ingredients to make our own Little Red Hen play dough.

We are continuing with our Churranga music scheme and this week we are trying to find the pulse in the 'Happy' song by Pharell Williams and personalising the Pat A Cake song with all of our names.

Reception are working really hard on learning their letters and sounds, we are beginning to build and blend sounds to read words. Please can you encourage your child to bring their book bag into school everyday so that we can hear them read, and play the phonics games together at home.

PE for reception is on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school on those days, that earrings and jewellery are removed, and that all of their uniform is named, thank you.

Homework

In reception we send home maths homework on a Friday to be returned to school by the following Thursday. This will be two pages from their maths booklet.

Phonics games will be sent home weekly for your child to play and develop their understanding of the sounds we have learnt that week.

Please listen to your child read and talk about their story book together using the pictures.

Remember to bring your book bag to school everyday
